Hakko Cafe Kome-Hana in Mito

We pass by Hakko Cafe Kome-Hana in Mito everyday on our way to work. We decided to stop by and give it a try. They had this nice sign outside that detailed their lunch menu and hours.

The cafe is located on National Route 50 near the underpass by Sakura Dori. It is only accessible while going east on National Route 50. There is a limited amount of parking located in front of the cafe. We were surprised with how busy it was when we arrived. We ended up parking down the street in a small plaza next to an au phone store.

The interior of the cafe is super cute. It has a nice clean and comfortable vibe with a good amount of natural lighting. There are half a dozen two person tables that can be brought together for larger groups. There is also a row of counter seats with baskets underneath for individuals and couples.

Hakko Cafe Kome-Hana Menu

Hakko Cafe Kome-Hana does not have a traditional menu. Instead they have three types of plates on the menu. There is a fermented plate lunch, a one bowl lunch, and a bread lunch. The contents of the three plates cycle regularly, so you are likely to have something new to try every time you come.

On the day we went, the fermented plate lunch was cacciatore chicken, the one bowl lunch was a salted pepperoncino pasta with ham, and the bread plate was a Mexican cheese dog. With three options to choose from, we decided to go with one of the fermented plate lunches and one of the one bowl lunches.

Hakko Cafe Kome-Hana Food Review

The food came out on these super cute trays. We really like the tableware they use. They were all slightly different styles, but had similar elements to each other. The pasta was tasty. The ham, ended up being delicious prosciutto. It was in a lite oil sauce and was a bit spicy from all the pepper. The side salad had a vinaigrette dressing and the egg soup was flavorful. The small tofu and shrimp patty had a sweet chili sauce. The small cup of yogurt had a small scoop of fruity syrup and some chopped nuts on top. Like most yogurts in Japan, it was not sweet at all. We mixed the ingredients and found the chopped nuts to be a nice flavor and texture addition.

The fermented plate lunch was cacciatore chicken with a full chicken thigh cut in half. It was cooked in a tomato based sauce with onions and herbs. The chicken was incredibly tender. It cut so easily, even with chopsticks. It had a nice savory flavor.
