Ruankao Thai in Mito

A friend of ours recommended Ruankao Thai in Mito, so we decided to go with some friends after a work meeting. The restaurant was conveniently located across the street from Mito City Hall. It was actually on the first floor beneath Ram Indian Curry. The main downside was the lack of parking. They only had one parking spot in front of the building. However, there were several paid parking lots in the area. Fortunately, we had some business to attend to at Mito City Hall. We parked in the Mito City Hall parking lot and were able to get our parking validated at the information desk.

The interior of the restaurant was pretty small. There were a half dozen or so two – four person tables with various mismatched chairs. The walls were adorned with seasonal photographs of local tourist attractions like Fukuroda Falls in Daigo.

Ruankao Thai Menu

The menu at Ruankao Thai was quite extensive with a wide variety of noodle, rice, and soup based dishes to choose from. We decided to order some beef noodle soup which one of our friends recommended, some shrimp pad see ew, and an order of their fried spring rolls to share.

Ruankao Thai Food Review

The fried spring rolls came out first and were good. They were nice and crispy on the outside and the filling was moist and flavorful. We really liked the sesame based dressing on the small side salad. We each had one and then played rock paper & scissors for the last one. Our food came out next. Amy’s beef soup had good flavor and the meat was tender, however the noodles were oddly shaped and a bit firm. The pad see ew was absolutely delicious. The sauce was on point, the vegetables were tender, and the shrimp were plentiful.

Final Thoughts

We enjoyed our meal at Ruankao Thai In Mito. The food was delicious and the prices were pretty affordable. The shop was run by a single guy whose cooking efficiency was impressive. He was able to produce six dishes in under 20 minutes. We highly recommend the spring rolls and pad see ew if you go.
