We stopped by Ramen Tonton in Hakusan since it was in the same building as our onsen for the night. We wanted to eat before taking a bath and since it was next door, we decided to give it a try. It was a ramen, gyoza, rice bowl type of restaurant that strongly resembled Gyoza no Ohsho. Restaurants of this kind are generally known for their tasty food (not necessarily good for you), large portions, and affordable prices. Typical patrons include college students, single working adults, and families with young children.

The inside was a mix of small tables and counter seats with a decent sized raised platform with kotatsu table seating. The décor was pretty basic with a mismatch of red and white chairs and barstools. The place was a little “sticky” in the sense that the tables and menus were a little greasy from residual use. It wasn’t a problem for us, but some people might find it discomforting.
Ramen Tonton Menu

We looked over the menu a couple of times to see what we wanted. We ended up going with an order of their karrage, a plate of fried rice, and a bowl of chashu ramen.

Our food came out a short time later. The ramen was pretty good, all the ingredients had absorbed the soy based broth nicely. The onions were a nice touch that added a little kick. The number of chashu slices was generous and the included whole egg was nice. I appreciate it when the egg is included without an additional fee, plus they cut it in half for us. The karrage was good as well. The pieces were really big. The picture does not do them justice. They were crispy on the outside and very juicy on the inside. The soy based seasoning was a little strong, so eating it with the fried rice helped to mute that. We mixed the red ginger into the rice which gave it a nice sour kick to balance out the salty taste.
Final Thoughts
We enjoyed our meal at Ramen Tonton in Hakusan. If your looking for a tasty and filling meal at a reasonable price, then this is the place for you. Their open until 23:00, so late nights are no problem. Its location makes it the perfect place to grab a bite to eat before or after your bath at Mattokaihin Hot Spring.
