We were interested in trying Okinawa Soba at Umikaji Terrace in Okinawa. Umikaji Terrace is a collection of several dozen restaurants on a beautiful multi level hill. Each of the levels provides amazing views of the sea and Naha airport.

One really cool feature is that most of the restaurants had their own private terrace. Most of them had tables and bar like seating with incredible views of the water.

The inside of the restaurant was pretty small with only a small counter to order from. Almost all of the seating was outside. The shop had a surf shack type of vibe with its exterior weathered wooden paneling. The interior was similar with a mix of tropical accents and string lights. There was a self service water station and some utensil displays for anyone to use.

Okinawa Soba at Capricious Shokudo Menu

We were interested in trying Okinawa Soba and this restaurant caught our eye. It was a hot summer day and their advertisements featuring cold Okinawa Soba won us over. The menu consisted of several variations of Okinawa Soba as well as other bowls. Typically, Okinawa Soba is a hot dish, so we were interested in trying their unique spin on the traditional dish. We ended up going with tempura and kimchi versions.

Our food came out shortly after. The tempura bowl was wonderful. It was light, crispy, and came with carrots, sweet potato, shiitake mushrooms, and goya. Dipping the tempura into the broth was very tasty. We enjoyed the kimchi version as well. The kimchi had good flavor and wasn’t too spicy. We’d come back here again.

Final Thoughts

We really enjoyed the Okinawa Soba at Capricious Shokudo. The broth was flavorful, the noodles were firm, and the sides added a nice variety of textures and tastes. We definitely want to go back to Umikaji Terrace in Okinawa. However, weather is a crucial thing to take into consideration. Rain and wind would make a trip difficult, as almost the entirety of Umikaji Terrace is outside.
