After a fun day of skiing at Monzen Yoshoku Fujiya in Karuizawa, we had dinner at Monzen Yoshoku Fujiya. We were heading back towards Karuizawa Station and decided to stop by the Mitsui outlet mall. It was getting to be around dinner time, so we decided to look for a place to eat.
Our initial goal was to stop by Karuizawa Meijitei which was similar to Nagano Meijitei. They served a lot of Nagano Prefectures’ local specialty foods. Unfortunately, the line was quite long, so we put our name down and got a numbered ticket. We continued along the path that featured a number of other restaurants. We passed by Monzen Yoshoku Fujiya and its delicious looking menu caught our eye.
Monzen Yoshoku Fujiya is a fusion restaurant that combines a traditional Western cooking style with Japanese flair. The interior has a modern design with some intricate details on the walls. There were a good amount of tables and wrap around counter style seats.

The menus at Monzen Yoshoku Fujiya were very clean looking. Each page featured only three to four items with a nice picture and description. After reviewing the menu we decided to order the sautéed Shinshu pork with an apple and caramelized onion sauce and the Shinshu chicken and mushroom cream stew.

Our food came out shortly after. Each of the entrees came with a crispy side salad with a tangy dressing, a side of pickled vegetables, a cup of tasty soup, and a bowl of white rice.
The mushrooms had absorbed the stew nicely. It had a rich and savory cream taste in addition to it natural flavor. The stew was rich and flavorful without being too heavy. The chunks of chicken were moist and well marinated. The vegetables and potatoes added a nice variety of textures and flavors.
The Shinshu pork was cut into thick slices that were both tender and juicy. The apple and caramelized onion sauce added a unique and tasty flavor profile. The side of vegetables added some nice fiber. We really liked the addition of the fried garlic chips.

If you’re looking for a nice meal after a day on the slopes, then we recommend Monzen Yoshoku Fujiya in Karuizawa. It’s conveniently located next to Karuizawa Station and has delicious food in a refined atmosphere.
