We found this restaurant while looking for a place to eat on Google Maps. We can say with confidence that Yummy Tommy has one of the best banh mi in Mito. The restaurant is located across the street from Mito Keisei Mall. It’s a little tricky to find by car since the area has a number of one way streets. The shop was run by a single person. The main downside to this restaurant is that there is no parking available. If you come by car, there are several paid parking lots in the area that you can use. We used one down the street with a rate of ¥200/40 minutes.

The storefront sits right off of the road and features a number of cute accents that make it inviting and approachable. The restaurant is pretty small with about half a dozen counter sits and one or two small tables along the wall. The space is really colorful and the lighting really emphasizes that.

Yummy Tommy Menu

The menu was a blend of different Vietnamese and Thai foods. They were known for their banh mi with a number of unique varieties to choose from. They also had some affordable lunch sets to choose from. Also on the menu were meat plates, pho noodles, and a wide range of appetizers. After looking at the menu, we chose to order a chicken pho, a beef banh mi, and an order of their chashu pork.

Yummy Tommy Food Review

The one chef was pretty efficient and our food came out shortly after. The chicken pho had a very lite flavor. There were chunks of chicken, mixed in with some fat, crispy garlic flakes, green onion, and cilantro. They had some sauces on the side and we added some fish sauce to give it a little more flavor. The pork was super tasty. It was thinly sliced and had crispy edges. The dipping sauce it came with added a whole new flavor profile that makes this one of our must try dishes at Yummy Tommy. Its a tad bit spicy, but manageable.

The beef banh mi was absolutely amazing. The bread was crispy on the outside and warm and soft on the inside. There was a generous amount of thinly sliced beef with shavings of vinegared carrots, daikon, and cilantro. There was also a tasty spread that soaked into the bread making it not dry. It was wonderful, we’d come back just for the banh mi.

Final Thoughts

We really enjoyed the food at Yummy Tommy. The chashu pork and banh mi were worth going back for. The next time we come, we’d like to try some of their more unique banh mi, like the shrimp and avocado or the salted mackerel. The food was also pretty affordable. Everything we ordered was ¥600 each. We were able to eat well for ¥1,800. Due to its close proximity to Mito Keisei Mall & The Mito Citizen’s Center, Yummy Tommy will always be a solid place to eat. The only downside being the parking situation, but even that is a small price to pay for delicious banh mi.
