Coffee Mountain in Sumida

We were in Tokyo visiting some friends who wanted to take us to Coffee Mountain in Sumida. The cafe was conveniently located across the street from Kinshicho Station. Our friends said that it was a popular spot for locals to come and meet up.

The interior of the cafe was pretty small and basic. There were a couple small tables with these matching, but dated teal colored chairs. We later learned that there was a large amount of additional seating on the second floor. The cafe had a real mom and pop vibe with its dated furnishings and mismatched lighting.

Coffee Mountain Menu

The menu was based around different types of toast and standard cafe drinks. We decided to just get a bunch of things and split them amongst ourselves. On their menu, there were several specialty toasts, so we decided to get them both and share. We ordered two morning sets, a kiwi toast set, red bean toast set, and an order of their homemade pudding.

Coffee Mountain Food Review

Our morning sets were the first thing to come out. They consisted of buttered toast, a side of bitter melon and onion, and either a hard boiled egg or a sausage. The best part was the bitter melon and onion. It had a very lite flavor with the subtle sweetness of the bitter melon and the hint of spice from the onions.

The red bean anko toast was tasty. The slightly sweet been paste on the hot and crispy toast was a nice combination. Typically we aren’t fans of red bean paste, but this one was alright. The special kiwi toast had a generous amount of kiwi jam. It was a bit tart for our taste.

Each of the morning sets came with a cup of coffee. The coffee was pretty good. It was smooth and not too bitter. The best part of the meal for us was the homemade pudding. It was smooth, had good flavor, and wasn’t too sweet. We were tempted to get a second one, but we exerted just enough self control.

Final Thoughts

We enjoyed our breakfast at Coffee Mountain in Sumida. We weren’t necessarily full, but we were content with the portion sizes. The homemade pudding was pretty good and something we would recommend. There is a lot of seating especially on the second floor. If you are looking for a place to relax near Kinshicho Station, then we recommend stopping by Coffee Mountain in Sumida.
