Café Cocca in Mito

We searched Google Maps to find a café to try in the area. We were library hopping and Mito City Seibu Library was next on our list. There are a number of highly rated cafes in the area. We decided to go with Cafe Cocca in Mito.

The café is in a very residential area. At first we thought it might be in someone’s house. As we turn the final corner we come to a large open lot surrounded by fields.

The interior of the café was quite large. They had a good amount of wooden tables. The dark flooring and wooden ceiling panels gave the space a rustic vibe. Yet the clean white walls and sliding barn door felt very modern. Each of the chairs and booth seats came with a cushion that made the place seem more cozy and welcoming. It felt like we were in someone’s house having lunch.

The café had a number of small details that when combined really made the space feel quaint and homey. These nice wooden spoons and this cute garden box are just a couple of the many cafes small details. The theme of frogs was also prevalent throughout the café.

Cafe Cocca Menu

The menu consists primarily of hamburg and chicken with a variety of seasonings available. They also had the standard café beverages and a nice assortment of pancakes. After looking over the menu we decided to try the lemon, onion, and salt chicken and the ginger sauce chicken. We also ordered a half portion of the mixed berry pancakes with maple syrup and ice cream.

Cafe Cocca Food Review

For starters we were given a small bowl of complimentary onion soup. The soup was really good. It had a very hearty onion flavor and there were small chunks of cabbage, carrot, and onion. We could have easily had a full serving of just the onion soup.

A little while later our chicken came out. Each of the dishes are on there own small skillet and accompanied by a nice variety of vegetables. The lotus root in particular was light and crispy. The chicken was well flavored and delicious. Both had crispy skin on the outside, but were incredibly juicy on the inside. Would definitely get both again.

Each of the chicken skillets came with a side of two onigiri with black beans. They had a muted flavor that helped subdue the strong flavor of the chicken.

Our dessert came out next. It was a little small, but the perfect amount for the three of us to each get a generous sampling of all the components. There were two quarters of a pancake that we cut into small squares. There were also scoops of vanilla and berry ice cream, a mixed berry compote, maple syrup, and some whipped cream. Surprisingly it wasn’t too sweet. The sweetness from the ice cream and maple syrup was offset by the plain pancakes and tart mixed berry compote. We really enjoyed mixing and matching the different flavors. We look forward to trying their other pancake flavors in the future.

Final Thoughts

We really enjoyed the food at Café Cocca in Mito. The chicken has nice seasoning, the vegetables add some nice texture, the soup is amazing, and the pancakes are a nice dessert. We’ll definitely be adding this place to our growing list of “must go to cafes” in Mito.
