We stopped for lunch Bread Park in Natori on one of our trips to Sendai. It was conveniently located in close promxity to national route 4 and was just down the street from Natori Station. It was hard to miss with its giant teal street sign and building.

Around the outside of the building there was a grassy play area for children with a sandbox and small slide. They also had a covered swinging bench in the back. It really reminded us of someone’s backyard.

There was a good amount of seating inside. We grabbed a table marker at the entrance and put it on a table to reserve it while we ordered. We then went up to the counter to place our orders. The menu was a mix of sandwiches, toast, and café drinks. They had a lunch menu with some nice combo options.

They also had a little shop selling a variety of fruit juices, honey, soda, and other regionally produced goods.

We ended up going with a choose two sandwich lunch plate. The plate came with our choice of two half sandwiches, French fries, and a small salad. Our sandwich options were egg, katsu, chicken, or pulled pork sandwiches. We chose the katsu and pulled pork. We also got an order of the strawberry French Toast.

Bread Park Food Review

Our food came out a little while later. The half sandwiches were nice sized and there was a generous amount of meat in both of them. The pulled pork was delicious, it had good flavor, and was nice and tender. The savory coleslaw was a nice contrast to the sweetness of the pulled pork’s sauce. Our main gripe was that it was cold, both the meat and the bread. It appeared that the sandwiches had been made ahead of time. We would have definitely preferred a hot sandwich with toasted bread. Even putting it in the microwave for a minute or two and then putting it in the toaster would have made a huge difference.

Same thing went for the katsu sandwich. The katsu was still crispy and the sweet sauce made it more enjoyable. We really hate it when we would take a bit out of a sandwich and some of the ingredients were difficult to bite. So, we would end up pulling it out of the whole sandwich. Bread Park’s solution for their katsu sandwich was to stack a number of thin slices of pork. Instead of a single thick piece of pork that may have been difficult to bite, we had around 10 layers of thinly sliced pork in the katsu. The result was an easy to bite sandwich that was cut cleanly with every bite. We appreciated this attention to detail.

Bread Park French Toast

Some time later our strawberry French Toast came out. It was one slice of toast cut into quarters that was put in these cut little cast iron skillets. The French Toast was amazing! It was incredibly smooth and delicious. Typically when we’ve had French Toast there was always a section that had a little too much egg, or another section that did not have enough. This French Toast had neither of those problems. The egg was perfectly distributed throughout the bread. It almost had a whipped custard type of consistency. The whipped cream and strawberries added a nice touch of creaminess and sweetness. Highly recommend. We liked it so much we got another one. We split the caramel and nuts French Toast with our friends.

The shop also had a window outside that was selling their freshly baked bread and pastries. It seemed to be pretty popular as there was a consistent flow of people coming and going.

Final Thoughts

We enjoyed our meal at Bread Park in Natori. The sandwiches were good, the salad dressing was great, and the French Toast was amazing. Next time we stop by, we’d like to get some of their specialty bread to go.

We were surprised to learn that Bread Park in Natori had 11 stores located throughout greater Tokyo, a couple in Miyagi, and one each in Hiroshima and Niigata Prefectures.
