Kourin Sushi in Kanazawa

We were looking for a place to eat lunch after a morning adventure through Kenrokuen and Kanazawa Castle Park. We found Kourin Sushi in Kanazawa (香りん寿司) on Google Maps and were drawn to them for their tremendous reviews. Many of the reviews mentioned a small shop with long lines, so we kept our expectations in check. Our back up plan was to get lunch at Omicho Market.

The restaurant was located on a street corner just north of Kanazawa Castle Parks Kuro-mon Entrance. It was a short five minute walk from Omicho Market.

We stopped by around 13:00 and there were a couple of seats available. The restaurant was indeed pretty small with two medium sized tables and five sushi bar seats. Dividers were put up to separate a larger table in half. There were two friendly staff members.

Kourin Sushi Menu

One nice thing was that the menus had English translations. The menu was pretty simple. They had one menu with a front and back. There was an option to order sushi individually or as part of a set. We went with two of the Chef’s choice sushi. The price for 10 pieces of sushi was only ¥1,320 which was very reasonable.

The sushi was really good. The fish was incredibly fresh and had melt in mouth type qualities. Our favorites were the tuna and shrimp. Probably in the top 5 sushi restaurants we’ve been to in Japan. We really liked and looked forward to the unique twists that they put into their sushi. Like the squid with ginger or the red snapper and radish.

Final Thoughts

Kourin Sushi in Kanazawa was centrally located within walking distance of Omicho Market, Kanazawa Castle Park, and Kenroku-en. The sushi was delicious and incredibly fresh. The highlights were the chefs unique take on sushi and the very affordable price point. If your looking for a lunch option in Kanazawa, then we highly recommend Kourin Sushi.
